The adventures of Chandler Kate

This morning was our ’28 week’ baby appt! I had to drink the ‘orange drink’ to do the diabetes test. Will find out in a few days any test results. But also, we got to see baby Chandler Kate again via ultrasound. She is 2lbs and 15” long. He said everything measures and looks good and normal. Dr. Anderson wanted to check to see where the placenta was. He has been keeping an eye on the location of the placenta…because it started out real low. But fortunately, the placenta rose up and will not be in the way of the birth canal. So yea!

Chandler Kate showed off a bit for the camera. She held up one finger and waved, then 2 fingers and waved…then she waved her entire hand. She open and closed her hand and grabbed for her arm. She wiggled a little…and is now too long to get an entire body shot. Dr. A said she had long fingers! Haha! She kicked out her legs…straightened them out and then bent. The cutest trick: she puckered like a fish and kept opening and shutting her lips. I wanted him to check to see if there was a cleft lip…so he had to get super close to her mouth…we could see her lips perfectly! She was kissing the camera! Very funny and cute I must say!

It was fun for Scott to see her wiggle. Although he feels her through my tummy, it was really neat to see a visual of her actually moving.

‘By now, your baby, has added blinking to her growing bag of tricks. Other impressive new talents being added to your baby's roster include coughing, more intense sucking, and, perhaps most important, better breathing.’ From http://www.whattoexpect.com/

So, good news to report from the Combs Crew!

We have 2 big games this week at home: Thurs vs UTM (8pm) and Sat vs Murray (730).

The Name Game

Well, friends, the wait it over. Baby Combs is not nameless anymore!

Drum Roll please: Chandler Kate Combs

Naming baby was a hard hard hard task. Scott and I both had different visions on what the name would be….so we met in the middle and finally found one (two) name(s) that we both agreed on! Wheeew!

We love the unique name of Chandler because we don’t know any…and we love Kate because it’s sassy and girly...and short. Since Chandler is not really a traditional name…we wanted the middle name to balance it by being a bit more common. So- that’s what it is!

Prairie Pink and Chardonnay Green..and Let's Go Peay!

The room is painted! Prairie Pink (soft pink) and Chardonnay Green (lime). Love it! It feels refreshing to have that project completed. Thanks, Mom, Dad, and Scott! Definitely a team effort. Pics to follow….I’m putting a few finishing touches and will take a few more pics for you to see....and will post them all. The black furniture really pops and looks sassy.

I noticed on the baby stat counter today… 101 days to go till the actual due date. Ahhhh…WOW! That makes it sound right around the corner!

One step closer...

Sunday, Scott and I put the crib together! It was painless and somewhat easy. I am never one to enjoy the ‘building process’ ..especially if I have to read a 10 page manual to accomplish one task. Much to my surprise, the ‘construction’ went by very fast. The chest of drawers that we ordered already came assembled…so the only construction part was the crib! We were delighted when we opened the box and the chest of drawers was already put together. We are waiting on one more piece and then the furniture will be completed! SO FUN!

This week, I hope to get the room painted. Although my thoughts on this change frequently, I’m thinking a pinkish color for the walls (soft….not bubble gum) and a lime greenish color for the bathroom. The material for the bedding is bought (toile…pronounced twall) and polka dot.

I will take a pic when it’s finished=)

We are excited….

Hammer Time

The baby furniture came in today!! (only took a week) Hooray! I am excited to see the room come together. Mom is making the baby bedding stuff....we picked out black material with white polka dots, a twall print (have no idea on how to spell it), and pink and lime green.....CUTE! I couldn't find anything pre-made to fit my whimsical taste...so, I enlisted mom's help! (THANKS MOM!)
Still deciding on what color I will paint the wall...pink or lime green...not sure yet.
Things are starting to seem a bit more real=)

She is super active. Rolls, kicks, etc very frequently! She's busy!

We had our 24 week appt this week. Everything measured as it should and everything looked normal. Our next appt is beginning of Feb.

(this picture is what an average 24 week baby looks like!)

According to the 24 week mark…the following is how the baby is developing:

She's about eight and a half inches long and one and a half pounds, gaining steadily at a rate of six ounces per week. Much of that weight comes from accumulating baby fat, as well as from growing organs, bones, and muscle. By now, that fabulous face is almost fully formed, complete with eyelashes, eyebrows, and hair. Is your baby a brunette, a blond, or a redhead? Actually, right now her locks are white since there's no pigment yet. (from http://www.whattoexpect.com/ )

The unsung hero of the fetal support system is the umbilical cord, which forms a vital link between the fetus and the placenta. The cord contains two arteries and one large vein; by birth, it may measure up to four feet long. Every 30 seconds, nutrients and oxygen-rich blood are transported from the placenta to the fetus via the single vein, then back again to the placenta through the two arteries. This ingenious method ensures a constant supply of filtered air and nutrients, and keeps the mother's blood separate from the baby's. (from http://www.parents.com/ )

Ford's F-Series still reigns

For the 32nd year in a row, Ford's F-Series is America's best-selling truck with 2008 sales of 515,513. Ford Motor Co. reported that the F-series outsold its nearest truck rival by more than 50,000 units. In addition, for the 27th year in a row, F-Series is once again America's best-selling vehicle of any type -- car, crossover, SUV, truck or van. The automaker also told Detroit Free Press that the redesigned F-150, which is the top-selling model in the lineup, is helping Ford gain market share.
